April Ross has won more than one Olympic gold medal. Ross is among the few women beach volleyball athletes who have achieved this feat. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends who took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, took their opponents to claim the gold medal. As fate would have it Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. Together, they won bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in the year the year 2016. Ross was a college player at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She was a player in high school and in years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. Ross had an impressive run through the NCAA tournament. Her freshman year in 2000 was when she won the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the award and become an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to make it back as an All-American. In her last two seasons with the Trojans' program the team was led to victory by winning successive national titles. In 2003-2004, she was named the top female volleyball player at a collegiate level in the US according to The Honda Sports Award. Ross studied the study of international relations in USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie did not get to see Ross rise to the very top of beach volleyball stardom. As of 2001, when Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. She continues to cherish her late parent. Margie has inspired her both in her personal life and at the beach.
